History
Mathew begun racing Go Karts in 1998 and his Karting career took him to compete across Australia and the USA . In 2005 Mathew stepped straight into Formula 3 and completed his first full season in 2007 finishing 6 th overall, the best finish being 4 th and 3 fastest laps.
In 2008 Mathew had an even better season, scoring his first podium finish and then flying home to finish the championship in fourth place with podium finishes in each of the final four rounds of the year.
Goals
To win the 2009 Australian Formula 3 championship and become a professional race car driver.
Mathew Sofi will take another step forward in 2009 thanks to the new partnership with AmPro Tools and Astuti Motorsport. With proven pace and podium potential - as shown in the final few rounds of the 2008 season - Mathew enters '09 as one of the championship favorites.
The Car
In 2009 Mat will drive an ex-Carlin Motorsport Dallara F307, powered by a Neil Brown Engines tuned Mugen Honda 2.0-litre engine producing approx. 230hp. This combination will ensure the latest machinery available in Australia for Mat's championship challenge. Accelerating from rest to 100km/hr in 2.2 seconds, 0 - 200km/hr in 5.5 seconds and with a top speed of 270km/hr, Formual 3 cars are now Australia's fastest.
F3 cars lap race tracks between three to seven laps quicker than a V8 Supercar, and lap Phillip Island three seconds faster than even the best MotoGP bike!
